The size chart for the product you selected is based on Chinese sizing standards. Due to significant differences in body shapes across countries and regions, the measurements corresponding to sizes S, M, L, and XL in Chinese sizing may vary from those in European or American sizing systems. If you purchase according to your usual size, there may be fitting issues. Therefore, we recommend focusing less on the size guide (S/M/L/XL) and instead referring to the specific detailed measurements in cm provided on the product details page to select the size that best fits you.
Green version restocked in late January 2026 – with a slight fit adjustment (forearms slightly loosened).
This jacket is a reproduction based on the classic Detroit J97 jacket.
The fit has been slightly adjusted - keeping the strengths while improving the weaknesses.
The fabric, like the original, will gradually fade with wear and develop its own texture.
The jacket is unwashed. There will be slight shrinkage after the first wash - we recommend washing it before regular wear.

The Detroit canvas jacket is a highly popular workwear style among Amekaji vintage enthusiasts. The J97 features a canvas collar, and like selvedge denim, the entire jacket will gradually fade with wear and develop its own texture over time. However, canvas fades much more slowly than denim, so you don't need to worry about the color rubbing off on your clothes. The fading is very gradual – almost unnoticeable – and over time it will develop a subtle vintage character that actually makes it look even better, perfectly in line with the rugged workwear aesthetic.

Action Pleats: We tweaked them so they lay flatter and don't bulge when you move.

Regarding the Lining: For this jacket, we used a blended fabric for the lining and removed the sleeve padding. We selected a softer, more comfortable blended material with a nice texture. It has its pros and cons – the comfort and skin‑friendly feel are excellent, with a soft fuzzy texture that’s really pleasant. The downside is that because the material contains polyester and has a fuzzy finish, it may develop pilling over time depending on friction. If feedback shows that this is a major concern, we can switch to a pure cotton plain or twill lining in the future – which would be more affordable and completely avoid the issue (similar to a Harrington‑style fabric, but without that fuzzy comfort).

Regarding the Hardware: The hardware is a key detail of the entire jacket. Many low‑priced Detroit jacket reproductions on the market use cheap, generic hardware. We use custom‑made YKK zippers throughout – high quality and great looking. The texture and design of the hardware are both very refined. Some customers have mentioned that they look a bit too shiny at first – but don't worry, the hardware will oxidize with wear and gradually darken. They're just bright when new.

Regarding the Workmanship (may be modified in future restocks):
The fabric‑to‑lining seam on the Detroit J97 is quite rough here – lots of loose threads and exposed cut edges, which can lead to excessive fraying and loose threads during washing. It's not very neat, as shown in the image below.
Originally, we had the lining and canvas constructed separately, with no stitching visible on the inside. However, some customers felt that this made the seams look less crisp and structured. Based on that feedback, we made the adjustment shown here.

Our adjustment plan was to first sew the lining and canvas together, then join the assembled panels, and add binding tape to cover the raw edges. This made it much neater and more visually appealing – but the resulting thickness was extreme. The wool lining is already quite thick, combined with the canvas and the binding tape, it ended up being thicker than 25 oz denim and extremely difficult to sew. The machines kept breaking needles and threads throughout production – for the green version alone, we broke over 80 needles. If we restock this style in the future, we may adjust this construction by replacing the chain‑stitched tucked seams with a three‑needle flat‑seam stitching instead.

Buyer Notes: This jacket has not been pre-washed. The reason is that factory washing is done in large batches, which can leave the fabric uneven and create irregular fading marks from excessive abrasion - affecting the overall look. Many customers also prefer their workwear to retain a stiffer, more structured feel rather than being soft and floppy.
Therefore, this jacket is unwashed. We recommend hand washing in cold water and avoiding machine washing. The fabric has been pre-shrunk, so shrinkage is very minimal and won't significantly affect the fit.
If using a home washing machine, please note that different brands have different wash intensities. Since the fabric is prone to fading and is quite stiff when new, it may rub harshly against the drum during the wash cycle, causing uneven wear and fading that could affect the appearance.
We suggest soaking in cold water for one hour, then rinsing by hand. Do not scrub or rub, as friction will cause uneven fading.
