Over the past few years, we've often heard fans ask if we could make a zipper version. While the button version is more authentic, many find it less convenient to wear. So we've arranged a new zipper version. Since we're making it, I don't want it to be too similar to the previous version – simply swapping buttons for a zipper would conflict with our popular OG107 thicker button version and cause overlap between the two. So although this link is for the zipper version of the OG107, you'll notice differences in fabric, color, and even the overall look. Let me explain the differences in detail so you can compare – even if you already own our popular button version, this one won't feel like a duplicate.
Comparison of differences:
1. The zipper version reproduces the early 1962 Type‑1 OG107 – an earlier specification. You'll notice adjustment buckles on both sides of the waist, and the button style and size are different from the other version – a variation due to different periods of military supply. To ensure an accurate reproduction, we've faithfully recreated every detail of this version, down to the buttons and the same DSA 1‑150‑C‑62 label.
2. As you can see on the original label, the original is 100% cotton 8.5 oz satin weave. Our previous button version is a thicker version – much heavier. Many customers felt it was too hot for summer, so this time we custom‑ordered the satin fabric to match the original thickness as closely as possible. Due to batch variations, the actual weight is around 8.9 oz, but it is still lighter than the previous button version.
3. The color is different. For the previous button version, we used the color of a brand‑new OG107 as our reference. Many customers questioned why the color looked so different from brands like *SLOW overseas. OG107 is a fixed classic shade, but the original military surplus pieces people buy have been through decades of aging – the vintage effect makes them much lighter. Since we were making this new zipper version, we also wanted the color to be different from the previous version to avoid too much similarity. So for this reproduction, we matched the color to what an OG107 would look like after 30–40 years of aging – a more vintage, lighter shade. You can think of this as the color of an aged piece.
Authentic OG107 fabric is a satin weave – you can't buy it off the shelf; it has to be custom‑ordered. Since custom orders usually start at 3,000–5,000 meters, smaller sellers often don't have the capital to stock up, nor can they afford the high development costs. So they tend to take shortcuts – using readily available green fabrics from the market to make a rough approximation. It's simple, cheap, and easy – but that's not the kind of reproduction we want, because it's just about the look. We deconstruct the original piece down to the fabric, reproduce it 1:1, and each production run is 4,000–5,000 meters – custom‑made to our exact fabric specifications. Later on, if the zipper version proves to be well-received, we will add a relaxed wide-leg fit as well.
